West Village Townhouse

Type: Full Gut Residential Renovation
Building: Landmark Townhouse
Duration: 12 months
Size: 4000 sq. ft.
Location: NYC, NY
Scope:

This 4,000-square-foot townhouse in the West Village was fully renovated in a project that began with a planned cosmetic renovation to freshen a French country aesthetic and evolved into a complete transformation.

While the footprints of the rooms remained largely the same, with some minor partition changes, the project involved major renovations to historical elements of this landmark building that necessitated intensive coordination with the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC).

Building infrastructure upgrades requiring LPC approval included new windows, a new front stoop, the arched gate underside of the stoop, an entrance courtyard and bluestone sidewalk, the entry door, and a rear deck addition.

The West Village Townhouse is five stories in total (cellar, basement, first floor, second floor, and third floor) with four bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, and a playroom and home office. The second floor master suite features three walk-in closets and a beautiful, large master bathroom with a marble tub, steam shower and wood burning fireplace—one of five fireplaces in the house, all updated with new mantles.

Finishing touches include bold selections for interior finishes updated throughout, including colorful tile, high gloss paint, and unlacquered brass hardware, elements.
