Scope: The Chelsea Condominium is located in New York City’s West Chelsea district overlooking the Highline and Hudson River Parks. Many of the area’s buildings have been converted into galleries and museums, while a recent influx of new commercial and residential projects have substantially changed the density and identity of the area. The Chelsea Condominium speaks to this physical and cultural transition with a dynamic urban gesture, an undulating facade that stitches its eclectic block together. The living units cater to residents with arts related occupations and interests. Duplex live/work units connect street-level living to lower level studios lit by a glass sidewalk. Upper level units have sliding walls that provide spatial flexibility, changes in use and varying degrees of privacy. The zig-zag façade’s floor to glass walls face both city and water views. Even at night, the buildings blue color and sculptural nature bring life to the neighborhood.
